Spiritual

Here’s a safe place where we can share our spiritual questions, struggles and triumphs. This is not a place to go for the one perfect answer, but to bond with and learn from others on this journey of following Christ.

So check out the sub pages on the right for discussion topics…

Ok – so we’re talking about “Worship More, Spend Less, Give More and Love All” this holiday season. Actually, I think this is an attitude I need to adopt all year! But to get some discussion started, what are you all doing differently this holiday season or what ideas can you pass along?

I’ll go first. I have a friend who only gives her kids three gifts each under the tree at Christmas. The gifts consist of a want, a need, and a surprise. She also still gives each child a stocking too. They’ve never felt deprived. Jesus only received three gifts, one from each wiseman. I’ve known about this for many years, but it didn’t hit me till just now that if God, in the flesh, only got 3 gifts, why should my little rugrats get more? Hhhmmmm, maybe I’ll start this tradition this year too!

I’m making several gifts this year, which is one reason I’m excited about our DIY Relational Giving Workshop. It’s sooo fun to give someone something you made, you know?!

I’ve also heard of the 3 gifts thingy. We’re doing that with Declan, and instead of getting each other gifts we decided to sponsor a child. We really want to have another baby(a girl) but andy and i both know we just aren’t ready so we decided to sponsor a girl.

We’ve also been playing around with the idea of donating a gift to toys for tots for each family member we would buy a gift for, but i know some family members aren’t too keen on that idea.

We’ve also had a HUGE issue with bringing back our 10%, im embarrased to say we barely gave anything to God at all. A couple months ago we decided to just start with $10 and increase it by $5 every week. We are so close to hitting that 10% mark and its so exciting! We have seen no change in the ability to pay our bills and have also been able to set $50 a week aside for savings. God is amazing!!!
K.. im done. Sry, just tend to be chatty when i get on a subject.

Aubrey, that is awesome! Its so cool to see God grow your finances. Trying to explain how that works on paper with math just never seems to work, but when you put it in practice, its amazing what God can do.

For Christmas, we sent out a letter to our family asking them to put the money they would have used on our gifts towards the blood:water project or world vision, specifically helping young girls that have been sold into prostitution. I haven’t gotten most of our family’s responses yet, but I just received a letter from my dad wanting to start a family tradition of that same concept, fulfilling needs of others as gifts toward each other (I’m not sure if that sentence makes sense, but hopefully you get the idea.
